The system will enable more efficient tracking and monitoring of government vehicles
The Government of Saint Lucia has launched an  Automatic Vehicle Monitoring and Tracking System, the first of its kind on the island.

The tracking device will be installed on some three hundred vehicles, and will allow for improved management and coordination of  the government’s fleet.

The vehicles represent a significant investment by the Government of Saint Lucia and brings into focus the high operating and maintenance costs of the fleet.

In his remarks at the launch, Minister for Public Service, Information & Broadcasting, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher said government has a responsibility to efficiently manage its assets.

"Again this is part of our whole programme of  public sector modernization, and allows us to have a public service that is more responsive to the needs of its clientele; that recognizes the fact that we are living in very challenging times and the onus is on government to make the best possible use of its resources."

The  Digicel F6 Asset Tracking Management System, as it is called, is being installed by  contract  awardee Digicel. Keigan Cox, Head of Business Development, Digicel OECS, said the system outputs comprehensive data critical to managing significant investments such as government's vehicle fleet.

"It is one of a kind in Saint Lucia. It provides you with live information, in real time where you are able to monitor the behavior of your drivers, vehicles, as they are deployed throughout Saint Lucia or even outside the island.  It is sufficiently flexible to allow you to do so from any mobile device - cell phone, tablet, or a PC."

The F6 Asset Tracking Management System is being implemented by the Division of Public Service Modernization, Ministry of Public Service, Information and Broadcasting, as part of the Multi-Channel Contact and Data Centre project funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Government of Saint Lucia recently signed an ICT Cooperation Agreement with the Government of Taiwan, which aims to increase and enhance the efficient delivery of services and information to the public.

Taiwan's Ambassador to Saint Lucia, His Excellency James Chang, says this latest initiative represents one of several other ICT projects to come on stream, funded by Taiwan.

The recent opening of the Government Digitization Centre, launch of the GOSL Web Portal "Our Government" and the National ICT Policy and Strategy all point towards government's modernization of its operations for increased public access.
