This year's Independence weekend promises to be nothing less than spectacular with celebratory activities in both the north and south of the island.
​Activities surrounding the 36th anniversary of Saint Lucia's independence kick off with the annual Independence Ecumenical Service at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception today, at 9:30 a.m. The official lighting of the Anse la Raye sports facility also takes place today.
Tomorrow's events include the Miss Independence 2015 pageant at the National Cultural Centre, the round-the-island Bike Festival and the round-the-island Independence Challenge.
A seafood and meat festival will also take place at the Vieux Fort Promenade while the Youth Concert will be held in Laborie.
On Sunday, Feb. 22, the annual military parade will be held at the Vigie Playing Field. From there all roads lead to Vieux Fort for the National Celebratory Rally, the Independence Food Fair and Exhibition, Dance Festivals and the SLAM Concert.
Celebrations for Independence 36 culminate on Monday, with the Independence Classic Cycling event and a grand beach bash in the south.
