THE DEPARTMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE, PORTS AND TRANSPORT HAS NOTED QUERIES FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, PARTICULARLY RESIDENTS OF RIVIERE MITAN AND ENVIRONS CONCERNING WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE STOPPAGE OF THE RIVIERE MITAN BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT.

The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport has noted queries from members of the public, particularly residents of Riviere Mitan and environs concerning what appears to be the stoppage of the Riviere Mitan Bridge reconstruction project.

The current status of the project is as follows:

The footbridge (temporary pedestrian bypass) was placed in the only feasible location following the damage incurred by the November 6th, 2022 trough.

However, its current location cannot facilitate the construction of the two eastern walls, according to the original design for the bridge.

As a result, the eastern wing walls had to be redesigned, and the designs are now completed.

The next steps will involve the filling of both ends of the bridge, then the construction of the road surface.

The DIPT assures the public that the project is still on course for a March 31st, 2023 completion date, in accordance with the contract document.
